Each manufacturer does extensive testing to ensure that the vacuums they recommend are strong enough to clean the carpet but gentle enough to not place additional wear and tear onto it. They work with The Carpet and Rug Institute to help make these determinations. Some of the priciest and biggest names in the vacuum industry are not on this list – that is because the suction is too harsh for most carpets and can harm them.

It is recommended that you vacuum high traffic areas daily and the rest of your carpet twice a week. This helps to collect dirt and debris before it reaches the bottom of the fibers making them more difficult to remove and more likely to damage those fibers.
