Choosing a stair runner

Stair runner created with Stanton Carpet by Elldaca Interiors

With the stair runners of today, anything goes. From animal prints to a neutral carpet, the options are endless. However, there are some things to consider for longevity as stairs get used heavily in the home. Here are the best carpet options for stairs.

  1. Low-pile cut carpet. This means the carpet has low fibers that feel dense. Not as much dirt and debris can get trapped within it.
  2. Loop pile carpet. Loop pile carpets mean that the fiber has been left in a loop rather than cut. Loop carpets do not show footprints or vacuum marks. You will want to choose a low and densely woven loop for top performance.
  3. Partial cut, partial loop carpet. This carpet is the best of both worlds and helps add some dimension and pattern to your carpet choice. It’s a great option if you want a neutral stair carpet that still has visual interest.

The photos below show our latest stair carpet installation. This is a low-pile cut carpet from Stanton carpets. The clients love their staircase and wanted it to make a statement while staying in line with the vision of their home. We love what they choose.
